The tug plane I have selected to build is a Multiplex Big Lift - A R F. It has a 2.4 metre wingspan and will have a MVVS 35cc 2 stroke petrol engine with electronic ignition and a tuned pipe 660mm long.
The kit came with the fuselage fully made up with just the tail feathers to be fitted and these are made up from 6mm solid balsa and all cut out ready to be fitted to the fuz.
Each wing was made up in 2 halves ready to be glued together and the solid balsa wingtips to glued on and shaped. The one thing I did not like about the kit was that they do not have a wing joiner bar,the wings have braces on them and just the rubber band and the the 2 locating pegs are all the keep the wings on and considering how much hard work the tugs do I decided to put a hollow aluminium wing joiner into the model. The hollow sections of the wing joiner tube required a bit of surgery on the wings to get them fitted at the right diaherdral and I feel a lot happier now .

I have chosen silk to cover the open webbings of the wings as I have had success with it when I covered my 1/3 scale K8.the silk is very easy to use and after you have doped it on to the balsa and let dry and then pass the heat gun over it the silk tightens up nicely ready to paint over.

The tail feathers were glued into the slots provided which were very accurately cut out . I am going to fit 2 small servos in the rear of the fuzz to operate the twin elevators. The rudder has a tail wheel attached to it by steel brackets that are part of the kit. The undercarriage is a stainlees steel flat bar shaped to fit underneath the fuz.

The engine will be tilted to one side so I can run the tuned pipe down underneath the fuz.The servo set up will be 2 servos at the rear to operate the elevators, push pull servo for the rudder, one to operate the tow release, one to operate the kill switch and 2 in each wing for alerions and flaps.I have bought a JR 2.4 meg transmitter to operate the model with.

So far I have built the model to the stage where I have brushed on a floor sealer to seal the balsa and then rubbed it down to make it as smooth as possible and then I gave it 3 coats of automotive primer sealer which I since rubbed down to gie it a good smooth surface on to which I will spray the finish coat which will be a bright orange for good visibility in the sky.
2ND INSTALLEMENT
The tug has been painted and most of the radio gear has been installed The engine is in and the fuel tank also Next on the agengda will be the decals and then to try a start up and run the engine in
All being well and going to plan I hope to have the first test flight at the August AREO-tow
